Can I take collagen whilst pregnant or breastfeeding?Updated 3 months ago

It can be tricky to talk about whether a product is safe to use during pregnancy/breastfeeding, as ethical challenges around research in pregnant people means there are often little to no studies available in this area. However, given the massive abundance and predominance of collagen in our bodies and a greater need for it during this period, it certainly seems possible and biologically plausible that collagen could be beneficial both during and post-pregnancy. In fact, fertility nutritionist Charlotte Grand included True Collagen as one of her recommended products in her book The Fertility Kitchen - you can read a blog she wrote for us here.

Collagen appears to be well tolerated and is thought of as a safe supply of important amino acids and protein. That said, we recommend you always consult with your doctor or midwife about the supplements you take during your pregnancy - seeing as they know your personal health history, they are best placed to give you the green light on nutritional changes. We would also suggest being mindful of our blends containing caffeine if you are monitoring your intake during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as botanicals like Ashwagandha. These include our Coffee + Collagen, Cacao + Collagen, and Cacao + Reishi. For that reason, it may be best to stick with True or Wild Collagen during this time.
